Ladies O50 County Report – Sunday 20th October 2013
Our three-woman team of Isobel Smith, Maureen Morrison and Julie Ann Pegram, travelled to Birmingham for the day, a long drive for two matches.
The team arrived in good time and were able to have a quick cup of coffee before the first match against the hosts Worcestershire. Julie Ann got the ball rolling with a 3-0 victory over Lorraine Wilde, Maureen had the honour of playing squash legend Bett Dryhurst and beat her comfortably 3-0. Isobel played Maxine Goodhead and won 3-1. Victory to Herts!
We had a brief rest before having to play Essex, who had travelled all the way to Birmingham to play Herts, slightly annoying for them! Again Julie Ann played great squash to beat Sue Vine 3-0, Maureen had a tough game against Kath Harrison but won 3-1 and Isobel played Jackie Gregory and JUST won 9-6 in the fifth game, much to her relief!
In the other match Oxfordshire beat Worcestershire 2-1.
A great day for the Herts Ladies, their first season in the O50 and hopefully they will build on their lead in January when they are due to play Oxfordshire.
The journey home was terrible, with torrential rain the whole way, but we were blessed with an amazing rainbow, hopefully a good omen for our next matches.
