Herts Closed 2025 Report & Gallery

The Herts Closed 2025 was held at Nuffield St Albans again and I’m glad to say no problems this year.   Thanks to Nuffield for allowing us to use the courts again.

Having been heartened by the increase in entries this year, unfortunately we had a large number of withdrawals leading up to the event which left us pretty much the same number as last year.

This year we introduced three new categories, a Men’s D competition for squash levels 300 – 1,999, a Ladies B competition, and a Club Participation Award.    Based on number of players from a club and then points for where they get to in the competition.   This year the winner was Nuffield St Albans.

Thank you to HEAD for providing prizes for the competition, the winners of the Men’s and Ladies A competition receiving a Head racket and all other prize winners receiving a selection of grips, strings and wrist and headbands.   Thank you to Rui for arranging this.

We did not have a sponsor this year and so it was decided to forego the t-shirts.  However, a selection of ‘vintage’ Herts Closed t-shirts were available to those who did not have one.

Isobel was supported over the weekend by Lesley Garner who, with her expert knowledge of running the Herts Closed for many years in the past, helped the weekend go smoothly.  Thanks also to Laura Taylor for giving up her Saturday to mark back to back matches all day.

With only two entries in the Men’s A, the final was played on the Saturday and provided great entertainment.

With only one entry in Men’s O65, Julian Craxton retains the cup and also only one entry in the Racketball so this competition did not go ahead either.

The finals on Sunday, although depleted, still produced some great quality squash, namely the Ladies final, the Men’s B and O45 finals.
