Herts Closed 2024

The Herts Closed 2024 was held at Nuffield St Albans.   A change of venue this year having held many tournaments at Radlett Squash.    We thought that a change was in order.   Many thanks to Nuffield for allowing us to hold the competition there.

Unfortunately, the worrying trend of falling number of entries continues compounded by injuries etc, with just 40 entries over the whole tournament.    This did not stop those who entered having enjoying their matches and we watched some very entertaining squash.  Thanks to everyone who entered the event supported the event.

Isobel was supported over the weekend by Lesley Garner who, with her expert knowledge of running the Herts Closed for many years in the past, helped the weekend go smoothly.

We also trialled Clive Baker’s marking and tournament system which was very impressive and most players got to grips with, making marking and collation of matches scores very easy.  Many thanks to him.

Things didn’t go quite as smoothly on the Saturday afternoon as we were asked to evacuate the club due to the water pumps breaking.   This meant a couple of matches played at another venue and another postponed.   The club did not reopen until 10.30 on Sunday morning which let to more disruptions and delays.   However we managed to get the majority of the finals played, with a couple left to play at another time.
