Ladies O40 & O50 Teams second in Inter County Champs

Herts Ladies O40 & O50 teams travelled to Manchester this weekend to compete in the Inter County Finals, held at The Northern Club in Manchester.

Both teams having won the championship last year, travelled with great hope, even though this year a majority of players were carrying injuries of some sort.

The O40’s team, same as last year was Mhairi Gritz, Jo Preston and Katie Winterstein.

They won their first match against Warwickshire 2-1, with a fantastic performance by Mhairi, winning 3-0 against a tough opponent.   Next they played a very strong Bucks team and unfortunately lost this match 2-1 with Katie narrowly losing 13-11 in the fifth.

On Sunday their last match was against Essex and Herts won this convincingly 3-0.

Bucks won all three of their matches and therefore were the winners.   Herts were runners up this year but a sterling performance by the team.

The O’50’s team, also the same team as last year, Louisa Dalwood, Libby Montgomery and Jillian Lilico, with Isobel Smith as reserve.   A tough ask for the players having three matches on Saturday and one on the Sunday.

They played Wales in the first match, with Louisa winning her match 3-2 even though suffering from extreme hayfever and only seeing out of one eye!   Libby and Jillian both winning their matches also.

Next match against a strong Yorkshire team.   Unfortunately a 2-1 loss for the team, Libby winning a very close match 3-2.

Having had a brief glimpse of the sunshine outside, the next match was against Essex.  For this match, Isobel came in at No. 3.   The team won 3-0.

On Sunday, unfortunately Louisa and Libby were not available and so Jillian and Isobel played the final match against Warwickshire.    Jillian played a sensational came of squash to win 3-0 at No.1, unfortunately Isobel lost 3-0, so the team lost 2-1.

Yorkshire having won all four of their matches were winners and Herts came second by one point!
